Bespoke Costumes

posted January 2018

Often it is not just the venue that we are asked to transform for an event, but also our clients and their guests, with amazing bespoke costume pieces! Costumes at a private party can be essential to compliment a theme and ensure guests look fantastic in memorable photos. Costumes can also have a huge impact on brand activations and product launches to boldly display a message or advertise a specific item. We have made an array of bespoke costumes from large-scale mascots, detailed historical clothing, famous movie character recreations, medieval fantasy gowns and much more! We also provide makeup and prosthetics, bespoke wigs, headpieces and other accessories to give the finishing touch to any look.

Design process:

Our team of talented designers and costumiers can create anything imaginable, using an extensive knowledge of costume history, pop culture and current trends. We work with our clients to bring their bespoke costume to life, starting the design process with sketches, moodboards and visuals which then evolve into a completed piece.

Making process:

Each bespoke costume needs to be approached in its own unique way in terms of materials and techniques.

When creating mascot costumes we usually use a material called plastazote, which are flat sheets of thin foam, that can be sculpted and formed into 3D shapes. Once we have created the base shape we then transform this with different fabrics or paint effects to create the desired finished. We’ve made all sorts of mascot costumes including a giant vending machine, a Bosch drill, a giant avocado and Jammy Dodger heads just to name a few!

If we are making a more tailored bespoke outfit we will start with generating a pattern made to suit our client’s measurements and then use different sewing and finishing techniques to create the final piece. This could involve machine and hand sewing, fabric dying, painting, embellishing, heat pressing and bespoke printing, distressing or a huge range of other skills. Just some of the bespoke costumes we have made include outfits for a Game of Thrones theme wedding, Day of the Dead Halloween costumes, bespoke wings and dress for a real-life fairy – the list goes on!

The Finishing Touches:

The final touches to complete any outfit always lie in the accessories! We can make bespoke accessories to enhance any costume or your own existing outfit for a party, photo shoot or brand activation, from hats and headdresses to gloves, jewellery, crowns, jabots and collars. Our team extends to amazing makeup artists who can create astounding character transformations with traditional makeup, face paints or special effect prosthetics, such as ageing, scars or even fake noses and fingers!

Luckily, we also stock a variety of costumes and accessories that can be adapted to suit our client’s requirements and measurements, so teamed with our bespoke costume services there’s nothing that we can’t make possible!
