Theme Traders was approached by Gravity Road to design & install a Christmas lights spectacular in the Cornish seaside town of Bude on behalf on Sainsburys.
The superstores covered car park tunnel; an impressive 70m (230ft)!, had become an unlikely tourist attraction after what started as a tongue in cheek review on trip advisor went viral.
Theme Traders provided full project management, content design and production for the installation….including contracting lighting specialists LCI Productions to work with us on all the illumination elements. We spent six long cold and windy nights laying more than 6.5 miles of cabling to create one of the biggest light tunnels in Europe, using more than 1,000,000 lux of light output!
The tunnel was flanked either end with bespoke hand carved igloo archways and a custom made ‘BUDE TUNNEL’ fairground style lightbulb sign at the entrance. It culminated in a sensory tinsel tunnel with an icy Instagram wall selfie opportunity.
The tunnel gained a huge amount of social media and press exposure on both a local and national level and was even mentioned on a popular mainstream tv news satire show.
Bude Sainsbury’s store manager Steve Gent commented: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive response for the Bude Tunnel… We’re delighted to be working with the community to give it all we’ve got and bring the people of Bude something magical this Christmas. It’ll be a shopping trip they’ll never forget.”
